Dubuque diocese settles Cedar Rapids man's abuse claim
Waterloo, Iowa -
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Dubuque has paid a $100,000 settlement to a Cedar Rapids man who claims he was sexually abused by a priest in 1983.
The diocese made the payment to Daniel Ortmann in October and was then dismissed from a lawsuit brought by Ortmann against the diocese and Rev. William Schwartz.
The lawsuit claims Ortmann was an eighth grade student at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids when he was sexually abused by Schwartz.
