SNAP, Alleged Victims Bring Demands To Diocese
The alleged victims of abuse by members of the Catholic clergy brought their demands Friday to the bishop of the Des Moines Diocese.
Their issues include a gag order recently issued in a case against a former Dowling High School teacher who is accused of abusing a student.
Leaders of the group Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests said it's time that the Catholic Church take stronger action in protecting children.
Three men said they want justice from the Catholic Church.
"We believe this is the single most effective way that any bishop can take to safeguard vulnerable adults and innocent children," said David Clohessy the national director of SNAP.
The men spoke in front of the main office of the Des Moines Diocese.
Steve Thiesen said that a nun abused him when he was a boy growing up in Dubuque.
He said abuse causes low self-esteem and the lack of confidence.
In a letter to Bishop Joseph Charron, SNAP calls for the Des Moines Diocese to make public the names of those priests and nuns who have molested anyone in cases where there is proof, admission or credible accusations.
