Former area priest suspended from Catholic ministry

North Adams, Massachusetts -- A Catholic priest who served in North Adams and Williamstown in the late 1960s and mid-1980s respectively has been suspended from active ministry for the alleged sexual abuse of a minor about 30 years ago.

The Rev. Michael H. Devlin, 62, was placed under the constraints of the church law after a review board at the Diocese of Springfield heard the allegations from the victim. The victim alleged he was sexually abused as a teenager when Devlin was at St. Thomas Parish in West Springfield and at All Souls Parish in Springfield, said Laura Failla Reilly, victim advocate for the Diocese of Springfield.

The review group consists of lay people, but also includes a victim and a priest, Reilly said.
