Woman claims abuse by Toppenish priest
A woman who says she was sexually abused as a child by a priest has filed suit against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Yakima.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Yakima County Superior Court, alleges that a priest from the Toppenish parish, about 20 miles southeast of Yakima, molested the woman when she was a Bible school student at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Toppenish.
The alleged abuse occurred in the church's sacristy, according to the lawsuit.
The accused priest, Rev. Michael J. Simpson, is deceased. The woman who filed the lawsuit now lives in the Seattle area.
