TheDeal.com - Tucson diocese, creditors near settlement

Tucson, Arizona --

The bankrupt Tucson, Ariz., Catholic diocese is near an agreement with claimants' attorneys on a payment structure for sex abuse victims, according to the lead debtor counsel in the case.

The lawyer, Susan Boswell of Quarles & Brady Streich Lang LLP in Tucson, said the funding includes an undisclosed but significant contribution by parishes.

The diocese also is on track for the June 30 confirmation of its reorganization plan, she said.

The diocese's steady advance toward that date comes despite efforts by a lawyer for two abuse victims to introduce the vexatious issue of including parish properties as part of the diocese estate into the case.
