Priest guilty of sex charges
Upper Marlboro, Maryland -- Former priest Francis A. Benham, 67, of Lincoln pleaded guilty Dec. 20 to child abuse and sodomy charges dating to a period between 1977 and '79 in a negotiated agreement with Prince George's County State's Attorney Glenn Ivey.
According to state's attorney spokesman Ramon Korionoff, Benham pleaded guilty to one charge of child abuse involving a 10-year-old male and one count of sodomy involving a 15-year-old female.
Sentencing will take place before Circuit Judge Michelle Hotten on Feb. 24. The child abuse charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, while the sodomy charge has a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.
