Abuse victims seek help from Catholic officials
American victims of clergy sex abuse are urging Catholic church officials to help extradite accused priests who fled to their religious orders in Rome or to other foreign countries to escape punishment.
The founder of the group Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests says religious leaders have a moral obligation to help prosecutors in these cases, so children are not at risk.
Speaking at a news conference near St. Peter's Square, Barbara Blaine said the accused priests should be "almost anywhere except Rome."
On Monday, Blaine and another victim staged a protest against the Vatican's decision to have Cardinal Bernard Law lead an important Mass of mourning for Pope John Paul. Law was forced to resign as head of the Boston in December 2002 as a result of the clergy sex abuse scandal.
