Most records unsealed in abuse lawsuit against diocese - Saturday, 04/09/05

Nashville, Tennessee --

A Nashville judge yesterday unsealed most of the court records in a $68 million lawsuit against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nashville brought by two men who say they were molested as boys by a former priest.

The records are expected to reveal for the first time details of internal church memos and other documents related to the case.

Davidson County Circuit Judge Walter Kurtz's decision came in response to a request by The Tennessean.

Kurtz said the identities of the two victims in the case, known in court filings as John Doe 1 and John Doe 2, would remain confidential. Financial information about the diocese and the names of other priests accused of molesting children will also remain sealed.
