Women sues Tucson convent for half-century-old abuse

Tucson, Arizona --

Another sexual abuse case has been filed involving the Catholic church in Tucson.
A 52-year-old woman is suing the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. She alleges that she was held captive at a Tucson convent for several years, during which time she was raped, sodomized, repeatedly beaten, psychologically abused and deprived of food and water.

The lawsuit says Mary Ann Shelton was placed at the convent in 1954 by her mother as a way to ease financial burden. She remained there until 1968

Her attorney says Shelton became an indentured servent and a "sex slave" _ that she was chained and held in a hidden room.
